"Presiding over events, Jangoo Chapkhana did wonders in taking his forces through this fascinating music, focussing on fine detail without for a moment losing sight of the overall sweep of the work.
This was a listening experience to cherish. Sung text and unwavering rhythmic underpinning were electrifying. I particularly liked the setting of NOW AS A SPRIT haiku, with frankly delightful singing in ensemble with gentle, delicate pinging and tinkling from the percussion section.
The choir was a model of disciplined and meaningful artistry."
Neville Cohn, The West Australian, 17 April, 2015
This landmark project features songs which were recorded by the legendary crooner who would have turned a hundred had he been alive this year. For the recording date, the Trio was joined by guitar legend Ray Walker for several of the numbers. Jangoo Chapkhana has featured his own vocals on some of the songs which he describes as being "timeless and extraordinary". With tracks such as "Hello Dolly!", "Come Fly With Me" and "Without A Song", this is your one and only must-have jazz album of 2015. Available for purchase from this website or at Urban Records (Leederville) for $25.
